- Offers an insight into the reality and complexity of multilingualism in Europe
- Aimed at a diverse readership: of interest to pre- and in-service teachers, researchers, students and those working in sociology, psychology, second language acquisition and education Summary:
Despite the spread of multilingualism, the number of research studies in multilingual contexts is scarce. This book deals with this question by examining would-be teachers' language use and attitudes, as their influence on future generations can be enormous. The use of the same questionnaire and the same methodology allows the reader to compare the results obtained in different European bilingual contexts, where the presence of diverse foreign languages leads to a situation in which several languages are in contact.
Review:
By
asking prominent researchers to apply the same research design in their
unique bilingual context and have them analyze the data using the same
techniques in order to answer common research questions, the editors
have managed to create an unusually coherent edited volume that is most
enlightening and satisfying to read. Jean-Marc Dewaele (Birkbeck College, University of London)
